Description
This bird belongs to the family of Kingfishers, of which there are 80 different species in the world, 13 of them in Australia. Kookaburras (Laughing and Blue-winged) are the largest of the kingfishers and can weigh up to almost a half a kilogram. Laughing Kookaburras are found along the Eastern Coast of Australia, from Tasmania to the Cape of York in Queensland, as well as along the South-eastern parts of Western Australia. We, at Lake Macquarie are visited by a pair of them every morning, giving us a good laugh, as if saying: “Get up, you lazy folk, life is not that bad!.
